The Author and the Little Feminist Movement Blog

I’m Kohlbey Ozipko, the author of the Little Feminist Movement blog. A little bit about myself: I received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta in June 2018 with a major in English and minor in Creative Writing. After I received my undergraduate degree, I relocated to Kelowna to attend graduate school at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan, and received my Master of Arts in English in June 2021. My thesis is focused upon representations of women and gendered violence in contemporary Gothic literature, particularly the works of American author Stephen King. Though most people would not typically classify King’s works as overtly feminist—he has actually been criticized in the past quite frequently for his representations of women—it was my analysis of his works and their feminist underpinnings that eventually resulted in my self-identification as a “feminist.”

It was really my graduate thesis that got me thinking about the significance of feminist activism in our day-to-day lives, and this is the point of the Little Feminist Movement blog: to get others thinking about how they can incorporate little acts of feminism into their daily lives to create wide-scale change. In this blog, I share my personal journey to becoming a feminist; the resources that helped (and continue to help) me along the way; how you, too, might begin and advance along in your feminist journey; and some tips and tricks for incorporating little acts of feminism into your everyday lives.

In addition to discussing the political, social, and cultural aspects of feminism, I also discuss how feminism shapes my personal life and choices in the form of developing my yoga and spiritual practices, the self-care and self-love that are so necessary when it comes to flourishing as a woman in this day-in-age, and the struggles (and joys) of pregnancy and motherhood. I find threads of feminism in every part of my life (even when I’m not looking for said threads) and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

So, this blog is my little act of feminism. What’s yours?
